All-on-4 Q&A

What are All-on-4® dental implants?

Traditionally, dental implants required one titanium post for every missing tooth. All-on-4 dental implants can replace an entire arch of teeth (upper or lower) with just four. This equates to shorter treatment times, quicker recoveries, and a lower risk of surgical complications.

In addition, All-on-4 implants rarely require bone grafting. Even if you have low jawbone density, you’ll likely qualify for treatment.

What are All-on-6® dental implants?

All-on-6® dental implants are very similar to All-on-4 dental implants. The main difference is the number of posts used. All-on-6 dental implants replace a full arch of missing teeth (upper or lower) with a fixed bridge.

During treatment, Dr. Marcano places four implants at the front of your jaw and two implants at the back. He places the implants in the back of your jaw at an angle, allowing for maximum stability. Over time, the implants fuse with your jaw, providing a foundation for your prosthetics.

Am I a candidate for All-on-4 dental implants?

If you’re missing most or all of your teeth, you’re a good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants. Before developing a custom treatment plan, Dr. Marcano and the team conduct an oral exam, review your dental health history, and use advanced 3-D imaging techniques to assess the quality, quantity, and volume of your jawbone.

Dr. Marcano and the team use this information to map out the placement of your dental implants. They then finalize a plan.

What does getting All-on-4 dental implants involve?

After developing a treatment plan, Dr. Marcano and the team administer a local anesthetic to numb your gums. Once the anesthesia sets in, they place four posts into your upper or lower jaw. Following the procedure, you return home for several months while your bone extends around the implants, fusing them in place.

When your mouth heals, you return to Orlando Center For Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Marcano takes digital impressions and sends them to a laboratory that manufactures your implant-supported dentures.

About two weeks later, you return to the office for your final appointment. Dr. Marcano connects your implant-supported dentures to the posts, restoring your smile to a healthy, vibrant condition.

Is the All-on-4 procedure painful?

The All-on-4 procedure is safe and typically well-tolerated. After the anesthesia wears off, it’s normal to experience some mild swelling and discomfort but this should subside within a day. If your mouth is sensitive, take over-the-counter pain medication.

Do All-on-4 implants require regular maintenance?

To keep your All-on-4 dental implants in optimal condition, it’s important to practice good oral hygiene. Dr. Marcano recommends flossing regularly, brushing twice a day, and visiting the office twice a year for an oral exam and professional cleaning.

To prevent chips, cracks, or other damage, avoid bad habits like nail-biting, chewing on ice, or opening objects with your teeth. If you play contact sports, consider wearing a protective mouthguard.
